About the Artist - JASMINE CHRISTIE

Jasmine Christie is a Muloobinba (Newcastle) based indigenous contemporary abstract artist painting on Awabakal Country. As a Palawa woman, Jasmine pays respect to elders both past and present and the land she lives and works on.

Jasmine’s creative journey began in early childhood, finding a love for painting and drawing. Life’s challenges have deeply shaped her: at 19 she was diagnosed with a rare heart condition requiring immediate surgery; at 26 – stage 4 Endometriosis and an ovarian tumour. After multiple surgeries, Jasmine fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother – an experience that inspired her to ditch her corporate job and paint full time. These experiences taught the valuable lesson of time, urging “if not now, when?”

Her works are born from human experience, often exploring the intangible – human emotion, transformation and the resilience that emerges from life’s defining moments. As a former mentor, Jasmine is passionate about connection, believing art has the power to unite people and spaces through shared feelings and stories. She hopes her work serves as a reflection and celebration on where people have been, how far they’ve come and where they are yet to go. Jasmine loves connecting to country and painting stories on canvas.

Jasmine is particularly interested in the female experience, hosting women’s painting workshops and birth debriefing. She has completed multiple visual arts courses and holds an Advanced Diploma in Business and Management.

Working primarily in mixed media, Jasmine combines acrylics, oil pastel, charcoal and pencil. She often paints on raw canvas and hand stretches her own works, embracing every stage of creation from beginning to completion. Her evolving style is guided by a desire to experiment in multiple mediums. Jasmine is committed to create art that brings beauty, joy and meaning, pushing the audience to grow from and with her works.

She is currently completing her 12 month artist residency at The Creator Incubator in Hamilton South.
