Hand painted in acrylic on Australian Eucalypt Hardwood slab, this Emu totem defines one of the two totem animals for Palawa people of Lutruwita/Tasmania. By the mid 1800s, wild emus in Tasmania were completely extinct due to white settlers over hunting them. Now they only remain in captivity brought over from the mainland.
